The actual street signs are manufactured by traditional craftsmen working to standards set down by Liverpool City Council for the manufacture of street signs. Penny Lane is identified by various types of street signs. The one we have chosen to offer is the metal plate variety (the one that kept being stolen from the wall by tourists!) The cast iron sign is unfeasibly heavy and not practical. It is no longer manufactured in Liverpool. The new City Council signs are reflective to headlamps and we felt they did not do justice to the peoples' memory of the sign immortalised by The Beatles song. It is for these reasons we have decided to offer the metal plate variety. The Strawberry Field sign, although very popular, is a novelty item as no real sign exists. The Abbey Road sign is taken from the one in NW8 London, England. |
